How many days you need in the Costa Brava: 3, 5 and 7 day itineraries
Three real itineraries depending on your days, with the best base town and what not to miss on each stretch of coast.
3 days: the essentials (base Lloret or Tossa)
Day 1: Tossa beach and walls with the boat from Lloret. Day 2: historic Girona in the morning and Santa Clotilde gardens in Blanes on the way back. Day 3: Lloret coves or the coastal path to Fenals. With 3 days, one base and short excursions beats changing hotels.
5 days: centre and coves (base Platja d'Aro or Palafrugell)
Adds the Baix Emporda heart: a cove day in Begur (Aiguablava and Sa Tuna), a Calella de Palafrugell day with the coastal path to Llafranc and the lighthouse at sunset, and a rice-day in Palamos with its port and fishing museum. The fifth day, shopping and the long beach in Platja d'Aro.
7 days: the whole coast to Cap de Creus
The complete week: add two days in the north to the previous five — Roses with its citadel and bay, and Cadaques with Dali house and the cape. If you can, dinner in Port de la Selva and the Sant Pere de Rodes monastery on the way. Figueres and its museum fit perfectly heading back to Girona.
Moving between towns
The train only reaches Blanes, Llanca and Figueres: between coastal villages the bus is slow in summer and cove parking is gone by midday. A scheduled transfer for hotel changes and for dinners far from your base is the formula repeat visitors use.
