Sitges for the weekend: the perfect escape from Barcelona
What to see, where to eat and how to move around car-free for 48 hours in the brightest village of the Garraf.
Friday: old town and sunset
Train or transfer from Barcelona (40 min by train from Sants; 25 min by transfer from El Prat), drop the bags and get lost in the lanes climbing to Sant Bartomeu church. Sunset from the new cemetery (yes, the modernist monument with the sea behind) is the village’s best secret, and a first rice dinner on the promenade.
Saturday: beaches and modernism
Beach morning (Ribera for buzz, Sant Sebastia for calm) and museum afternoon: Cau Ferrat, Rusinol’s house-studio, and Palau de Maricel with its terraces over the sea. Sitges nights are walked along the first stretch of the promenade.
Sunday: coves and farewell
The coastal path east leads in 30 minutes to tiny coves among mansions (la del Mort and Terramar). Early lunch and train or transfer back: Sitges to the airport is 25 minutes and you wake up home on Monday.
