Emporda Wineries (Garriguella)
The classic visit: modernist cellar, DO Emporda wines and views of the sierra.
Wine route
The Emporda produces wines since the Romans: garnacha and carinena on sandy soils between the Pyrenees and the Mediterranean. These are the five visits worth the trip.

The classic visit: modernist cellar, DO Emporda wines and views of the sierra.
The flagship: signature winery, casino and a starred restaurant in a 14th century castle.
Award-winning architecture among garnacha vineyards: visits with blind tasting.
Garnachas as always in a family farmhouse: the tasting with house pa amb tomaquet.
Small, organic and dry-farmed: by appointment and tasting with the winemaker.
The wineries are spread between Figueres, the coast road and the Girona north: no public transport links them. The classic plan is a half-day route with two or three visits and lunch at a farmhouse restaurant — a scheduled transfer with a driver waiting at each stop is the safe (and legal) way to enjoy it.
Best months: April-June and September-October (harvest). Most visits require prior booking.
